Abstract: Fragile sites have been recognised since 1965. Extensive molecular characterisation of them has occurred in the last decade. Yet there are a number of interesting phenomena relating to fragile sites and similar lesions on chromosomes that have not been subject to recent published research. The aim of this short review is to stimulate interest in some of these aspects of fragile sites in the hope that a more complete picture of their nature and properties will emerge.
