Abstract: A new direction of arrival (DOA) estimation method is proposed for situations where coherent sources exist. With this algorithm, the coherent and incoherent sources are estimated separately. The coherent sources can be estimated by exploiting the symmetry of the array geometry to avoid a significant loss in array aperture and the high computation of the conventional transformation method based on spatial smoothing. The difference smoothing method, instead of forward/backward smoothing, is also used to reduce complex noise effects. Therefore, the algorithm is suitable for weak signal DOA estimation with a small number of antennas.Simulation results demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method.
