Abstract: Considers the conditioning of some linear least-square methods which are applied in the earth sciences. Most attention is directed towards Wiener filtering, emphasis being placed on seismic deconvolution. Two geostatistical techniques, Ordinary Kriging and Co-kriging, are also considered.
